OAESV advocates for public policies that improve the response to survivors of sexual violence, support the work of rape crisis centers and allied professionals, hold offenders accountable, and keep communities safe. OAESV provides testimony on bills related to sexual violence in Ohio and works with state legislators and state and community partners regarding legislation affecting Ohio's survivors and communities. Additionally, OAESV is proud to coordinate the following activities:
Annual Advocacy Day to End Sexual Violence: Held every spring, Advocacy Day is an opportunity for professionals, survivors, students, and concerned members of the general public to gather in Columbus Ohio to speak with State Representatives and Senators about issues affecting their communities. Advocacy Day is a meaningful opportunity for legislators to learn about sexual violence and how it affects local communities throughout Ohio.
Survivor Advisory Council: OAESV convenes a Survivor Advisory Council consisting of adult survivors of sexual assault/child sexual abuse from across Ohio. The Council meets quarterly to discuss priorities and updates related to sexual assault policy in Ohio. OAESV's public policy efforts are directly informed by the Survivor Advisory Council. You can support our public policy advocacy efforts by contacting your state legislators, by testifying about proposed legislation, and/or by telling us what you want legislators in Ohio to know about sexual violence.
