SUMMARY:2021 - 7th Annual Shine the Light Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\nShine the Light Fundraiser\nThe Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence (OAESV) is hosting our 7th annual fundraiser to “Shine the Light” on sexual violence in Ohio and to advocate for survivors. The past year has added another pandemic to the social unrest and oppression we had already faced. Like our 2020 event\, this year’s fundraiser has two parts – the first is a silent auction\, opening 9/10 at 10:00am and closing at 12:15pm on 9/18. And the second is a virtual community call-to-action to raise awareness of sexual violence\, highlight the work being done across the state\, and generate support for OAESV. \nThe live virtual event will also feature keynote speaker Tony Porter\, who brings a perspective of engaging men and boys in the anti-sexual violence movement\, as survivors and as those who can help end sexual violence in our communities. Will you join us to drive change in our communities? We ask you to purchase a ticket to the event\, bid on auction items\, and/or tell your friends and family about why you think they should support our fundraiser. \nRemember that rape is a public health epidemic in Ohio with approximately 743\,000 adult women survivors in our state. About one in five children will be sexually abused before they turn 18 years old\, and rape continues to be the most under-reported crime in the state of Ohio. \nThank you for considering! Sponsor and get your tickets at www.oaesv.org/STLTickets\, and bid on items at www.oaesv.org/STLAuction. As a supporter of this event\, your contribution builds upon the helpful yet restrictive grant funding we receive throughout the year. Your ticket and auction purchases help us provide even more services to Ohio’s advocates\, survivors\, and communities. \nTaking place online to honor social distancing guidelines.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3602″ alignment=”center” onclick=”custom_link” img_link_target=”_blank” link=”https://www.charityauctionstoday.com/auctions/OAESVSTL2021-21309″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3603″ alignment=”center” onclick=”custom_link” img_link_target=”_blank” link=”https://www.charityauctionstoday.com/t/oaesvstl2021-de85c80aff”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\n\nKeynote Speaker: Tony Porter\nAuthor\, Educator\, Activist\nTony Porter is an author\, educator and activist working to advance gender and racial justice and create a more equitable society. SUMMARY:Autumn Double Feature: Immigration & Employment Law for Advocates
DESCRIPTION:Join OAESV for the Autumn Double Feature: Immigration and Employment Law for Advocates where two attorneys will speak on two vitally important topics to survivors in Ohio: Employment and Immigration.  Attorney Matthew Besser will join us to speak on employment issues and highlight crucial laws for advocates.  Inna Simakovsky will join us to review U visas\, T visas\, VAWA\, SIJS\, and recent changes that will be helpful for advocates when speaking with and advocating for survivors.  We look forward to you joining us for this half day overview on Employment and Immigration laws. \nMatthew D. Besser is the Managing Principal at Bolek Besser Glesius\, where he represents individuals in employment discrimination and civil rights cases. In July 2021\, he also became the General Counsel of the ACLU of Ohio. For his work representing employees\, U.S. News’ The Best Lawyers in America recently named Besser its 2022 Cleveland employment “Lawyer of the Year.” In 2020\, the Ohio State Bar Association gave him its Best Ohio Supreme Court Brief Award. In addition to his day job\, Besser serves on the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s Board of Directors and is the former chair of its Certified Grievance Committee. \nInna Simakovsky is uniquely positioned to understand the plight that so many immigrants face because she too was once a refugee.  In 1976\, Simakovsky and her parents emigrated from the former Soviet Union\, fleeing the persecution and discrimination Jews were experiencing under Communist rule. As one of the first waves of Soviet Jews to leave\, the family was fortunate to get out before the iron curtain fell.  Still\, the experience of leaving one’s home and family\, possibly forever\, was traumatic. It would be another 15 years before her mother’s entire family could join them.    She graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the Mortiz College of Law at Ohio State University in 1998 and was admitted to the Washington State Bar. Simakovsky practiced law in Washington state and California.  Simakovsky returned to Columbus in 2004 and for the next three years she supervised the largest non-profit immigration services provider in Columbus. Inna also started immigration programs at the Economic and Community Development Institute in Columbus\, Ohio and Asian Services in Action in Cleveland\, Ohio.  Simakovsky is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and is admitted to practice before all federal immigration courts   Simakovsky’s dedication to the immigrant community expands well beyond her legal practice. She is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS)\, the oldest international migration and refugee resettlement agency in the U.S.  She is also a past member of the advisory board of Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLINIC)\, a national immigrant advocacy organization located in Washington D.C. Regionally\, Ms. Simakovsky is a past member of the Ohio Literacy Network and is a renowned and sought-after expert and speaker on immigration topics across the country. \n\n \n	\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:Co-Conspirators Open House Event
DESCRIPTION:Co-Conspirators Open House Event\nPlease join the Ohio Co-Conspirators in Ending Oppression (CIEO) for our 2022 Open House Event. This Virtual Event is for anyone interested in learning more about CIEO\, building community and practice around anti-racism work and working towards being a co-conspirator to Black\, Indigenous\, and People of Color Communities (BIPOC). You do not have to be a previous CIEO Member to join this event. At this event we will have time for a meet and greet\, break-out sessions to get to know each other and discuss anti-racism work\, swap resources on anti-racism initiatives and a learning session on Mutual Aid. We will end by sharing our CIEO 2022 Interest form if you’re interested in staying connected. \n  \nThe Ohio Co-Conspirators in Ending Oppression (CIEO) is a subcommittee of the Statewide Anti-Oppression Committee\, comprised of individuals working in various survivor/victim services capacities in Ohio’s five regions. As beneficiaries of white privilege\, members strive to honor our responsibility to dismantle racism and intersecting forms of oppression. It is on us\, not Black\, Indigenous\, People of Color (BIPOC)\, to actively work against white supremacy. This work requires humility\, self-examination\, relationship-building\, accountability\, and sustainable actions. We acknowledge that there has been a legacy of racism within anti-violence movements\, and as such commit to be aspiring co-conspirators and sustainable anti-racist work. \nTo reflect this commitment\, this group has made structural changes\, including shifting towards working groups\, opening membership restrictions to increase participation\, and a name change made official in 2021\, from the previous name Aspiring White Allies. \n  \nThis project was supported by Grant No. 15JOVW-21-GG-00733-MUMU awarded by the Office on Violence Against Women\, U.S. Department of Justice\, to the Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence. The opinions\, findings\, conclusions\, and recommendations expressed in this publication/program/exhibition are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the U.S. Department of Justice. \n\n \n	\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER NOW
