Ethical Storytelling for Education, Awareness, and Outreach

Ethical storytelling cannot begin and end with survivor speaker bureaus. This workshop invites participants to take a closer look at the storytelling practices they use in their education, training, outreach, prevention, advocacy, and fundraising work. Our sexual violence storytelling should contribute to a narrative that supports ALL survivors, not one that further marginalizes and traumatizes them. This workshop explores the pedagogical strengths and ethical considerations of sharing stories about the people and populations we serve. This workshop presents a strategy for aligning educational storytelling practices with the advocacy field’s ethical standards, values, and objectives.
