OAESV’s Media Engagement Training: An Opportunity for Rape Crisis Centers

Spokesperson and media training democratizes how we make meaning of the world we live in by changing the story and the storyteller. This training positions social change leaders to shift public narratives by giving them the tools to identify, craft, and share their stories, perspectives, and analysis in their communities and the media.

Attendees will:

  • establish and embody what makes them proficient in their area of focus and somebody on whom media makers can rely for truthful and valuable information on a particular subject
  • learn how to develop a political message—a persuasive body of information that persuades an audience to do, feel or say something—using an easy to remember method
  • leave with an understanding of how socialization, stigma, bias, typecasting, tropes, personal physiology, and a hypercritical and carceral online landscape impact how we feel about being a public-facing figure
  • get practiced at being a spokesperson by practicing in front of their peers and receiving real-time feedback and affirmations

This training will be led by nationally-recognized communications strategist Shanelle Matthews.

Each OAESV-recognized RCC is invited to send a maximum of 1 staff member to this training. OAESV has limited funds to reimburse mileage for your travel to this event if your organization is not able to do so.
