Ohio Campus Coalition for Advocates and Preventionists
April 16 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
The Ohio Campus Coalition for Advocates and Preventionists (OCCAP) is a community of practice for advocates and preventionists working on college and university campuses across the state. This is a space for direct service staff such as college/university-employed staff, nonprofit-employed staff, and volunteers who work directly with survivors and/or violence prevention programming on college/university campuses.
The April OCCAP meeting will feature one hour of training titled “Working with Student Groups: Moving from Chance Encounters to Targeted Efforts” facilitated by Christi Scott Bartman of Eyes Up Appalachia.
Training Description: As a professor I have long appreciated the energy, creativity and innovation my students bring to the classroom. But as the founder of Eyes Up Appalachia, I appreciate it even more! My initial efforts with students were chance encounters but over the years they have become more targeted. They bridge the spectrum from basic (but valuable) internships and student projects to student groups leading campus campaigns against human trafficking. Join me as we look at the variety of ways this has developed through my anti-human trafficking initiative.
Objectives:
- Identify opportunities on college campuses where initial exposure to students allow the exchange of ideas and promote the natural development of relationships
- Understand the connection potential in those relationships and how to take them to the level of an organized effort
- Assess strategies to keep those relationships moving forward
The final 30 minutes of the meeting will be space to connect with campus advocates and preventionists across the state.
