Workshop #5 – Silence is No Longer Golden/What You Talking Bout Willis

Presentation Abstract: In this discussion we willl explore ways to be firm, fair, and assertive in changing a culture of conversations surrounding sexual assault, relationship violence, and overall harm. Through activity and dialogue, we will examine how to approach unpacking and or shutting down an abusive, offensive, and harmful speech.
Presenter Name(s): Julius Payne (he, him, his) and Tia Payne (she/her/hers)
Lead Presenter Bio: Julius Payne is a lifelong resident of Akron, Ohio. Currently he is the Program Coordinator in the Center for Sexual and Relationship Violence Support Services at Kent State University. His responsibilities include Green Dot programming and work focusing on discussions of masculinity. Prior to going to Kent State he held a similar position at the Rape Crisis Center of Medina and Summit Counties for five years. He does this work because he wants to positively impact the lives of others through education, awareness and discussion. He enjoys learning about the students that he interacts with while having these discussions and looks forward to a long impactful tenure at Kent.
