Celebrate Indigenous People’s Day on October 11th
Domestic violence and intimate partner violence occurs in all communities. However, various causes can affect the level, intensity, and prevalence of violence. A study by the National Institute of Justice indicates that American Indian and Alaska Native women and men suffer violence at alarmingly high rates, with more than four in five Natives having experienced some form of violence in their lifetime.
Violence against Indigenous peoples, including many Latino/a/x and Hispanic communities, began with European contact and has continued to this day as a tool of colonization. On October 11th, we invite you to celebrate Indigenous People’s Day, a day honoring Native American peoples and commemorating their histories and cultures.
