A Letter to Survivors from YWCA of Northwest Ohio
Dear Community,
Greetings and welcome to a New Year. At the YWCA of Northwest Ohio, we take the beginning of every year to reflect on the previous year and ask ourselves how have we served in ways that we are proud of and where are we still needing to grow?
This past year we were honored to have new volunteer advocates join us in the work that we do, and we are proud of expanding our volunteer base. We also hired some new staff advocates and this year we will be focused on ongoing professional development to ensure we meet your expectations of service.
I also hope dear community, that wherever you are on your journey, if you ever need a reminder that you are not alone you will think of us, and each other. We, our volunteers, our advocates, our staff at the YWCA, believe you. We believe that your story is still being written and that you are the ultimate author. The work we are most proud of and most privileged to do is when we can walk with you on your healing journey, for however long you permit us by your side. This community is diverse, from individuals who have yet to tell a soul their story, to those who have shared their journey in books and on television. Each voice, each journey, each identity is there and together we are strong. As Lucas County’s dedicated Rape Crisis Center, we strive to represent you, serve you, and walk with you in excellence.
One of my favorite quotes is from Charlotte Bronte’s book Jane Eyre ‘I am no bird and no net ensnares me”. May you step into this new season free.
Humbly Yours,
The Rape Crisis Advocates of the YWCA of NWO
