Workshop #10 – Adjusting Our Aim, Bridge Building, and Meeting Challenges- The ABCs of Working With Military and Veteran Survivors

Presentation Abstract: This workshop will focus on the unique challenges when working with Military and Veteran survivors and the recent changes the DoD has taken to improve the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Programs. We will also discuss how community and state based organizations can partner with military programs to increase support and collaboration and will highlight that sexual violence is a problem that we all face and will work to solve together.

Lead Presenter Bio: Sarah Sullivan, US Army Corps of Engineers Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, is an Air Force Veteran and has been a Civilian and Military Victim Advocate since 2008. She began her victim advocacy work locally with the Sexual Assault Response Network of Central Ohio while attending Ohio State and graduating with a Bachelor’s in Criminology and Psychology. Since then she has volunteered or worked with rape crisis centers in Georgia and Wisconsin and has served as a Military Victim Advocate or Sexual Assault Response Coordinator since 2014. She is currently pursuing her Master’s in Criminal Justice at the University of Cincinnati.
