Legislative Sessions
In Ohio, a new legislative session is assembled every two years, when the General Assembly convenes on the first Monday in January in each odd-numbered year. Each General Assembly meets during this two-year period, which is divided into two annual regular sessions. Bills introduced in the first session year are carried over to the second year. Bills not enacted by the end of the second session die and are not carried over to the next biennium – this is why you will see identical issues re-introduced with different bill numbers depending on the session. The 136th General Assembly convened in January 2025 and will end in December 2026.
