Resources for Forensic Examiners & Healthcare Professionals
Healthcare professionals, including Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs), Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners (SAFEs), or Forensic Nurse Examiners (FNEs), are critically important to the response to sexual assault and to the recovery needs of survivors. OAESV is pleased to offer training and technical assistance for forensic nurses as well as Sexual Assault Response Teams (SARTs). For more information or to request training or technical assistance, please contact our Statewide Director of Forensic Nursing, Tammy Robertson, at trobertson@oaesv.org

- Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) – The Ohio SAFE program pays for the cost of a medical forensic examination and the antibiotic prophylaxis to prevent sexually transmitted infections. The program reimburses medical facilities directly in the hopes of reducing the burden of dealing with billing issues for survivors of sexual assault.
- Ohio Sexual Assault Kit Tracking System (SAKT) – Ohio Revised Code Section 109.68 empowers the Attorney General’s Office to operate an online system to track the status of sexual assault evidence kits (SAEKs). SAEKs are the product of evidence-gathering exams completed at medical centers.
