About the Clinic

The OAESV Legal Clinic (formerly known as Ohio Survivor Legal Assistance Clinic) endeavors to protect the rights and amplify the voices of survivors of sexual violence throughout Ohio’s legal systems.

The OAESV Legal Clinic is proud to stand as Ohio’s only legal services provider dedicated to solely to protecting the rights of survivors of sexual violence. The Clinic provides legal assistance to survivors often left out of other legal services programs (including those serving only survivors of intimate partner violence or those only serving survivors involved in criminal system matters).

The Clinic bridges the gap in services for survivors of sexual violence – including survivors of sexual violence perpetrated by non-intimate partners, non-family or household members, strangers, acquaintances, dating relationship, co-workers, and classmates.

This project was supported by Grant No. 2018-WL-AX-0015 awarded by the Office on Violence Against Women, U.S. Department of Justice, to the Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence. Legal Services Provided

The Clinic provides direct representation of survivors of sexual violence in legal matters, including:  

  • Civil Stalking and Sexually-Oriented Offense Protection Orders  
  • Title IX and Campus Sexual Assault matters in K-12 and Post-Secondary Institutions 
  • Office of Civil Rights Complaints  
  • Employment and Sexual Harassment  
  • Survivor Privacy Rights  
  • Landlord-Tenant and Housing Protections  
  • Immigration Law referrals and support 

What We Can’t Help With

*The Clinic is not available to represent survivors in the following case types:  

  • Criminal Defense representation 
  • Civil Litigation  
  • Family Law Matters

OAESV’s VOCA Panel Attorney Program:

In addition to legal representation, OAESV also provides attorney assistance to survivors through its VOCA-funded panel attorney program. Where the Clinic is unable to support survivors due to capacity issues or Federal grant limitations, an OAESV panel attorney may be available to assist survivors.

How to Receive Legal Services from OAESV

Survivor, preferably with an advocate, should complete and submit the online form below.

Once done OAESV will send the below to the provided email:

  1. Release of Information
  2. Participant Agreement Form

Survivor will sign and return both completed forms to OAESV.

OAESV will complete application review process.

OAESV will approve or deny case and provide update to provided email.

Resources and Training for Attorneys

Ohio Survivor Legal Assistance Clinic is committed to training, educating, and assisting attorneys throughout Ohio. Whether in person, virtual, phone, or written, OSLAC strives to provide the most accurate and up to date information to attorneys working with survivors of sexual assault. Collaborating across Ohio on resources, services, and information is vitally important to ensure survivors, advocates, and attorneys are prepared for a variety of legal issues. Training and technical assistance can be conducted in groups or individually on a variety of topics including but not limited to:

  • Civil Protection Orders
  • Criminal Legal System
  • Housing
  • Title IX
  • Supporting survivors

OAESV Legal Clinic Virtual Office Hours

The OAESV Legal Clinic holds virtual office hours to provide a safe space for Ohio survivors and their advocates to connect with an attorney.  Virtual office hours will allow survivors to discuss legal options, connect with resources, and/or have a brief consultation. 

  • 2nd Thursday of the month from 12pm to 2pm
  • 4th Tuesday of the month from 4pm to 6pm
